Detention for suspects of war crimes against Croats

The BiH Prosecutor's Office will ask the Court of BiH after the interrogation to order the detention for eight people arrested yesterday on suspicion thay committed war crimes in the area ofCentral Bosnia against victims of Croatian nationality.

The detention will be proposed because of the danger that the suspects,if free, could disrupt the investigating, conceal evidenceand influencethe witnesses and accomplices, the BiH Prosecutor's office said.

Members of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) arrested eight people in the Vitez, Zenica and Sarajevo areas yesterday for suspecting that they committed war crimes against victims of Croatian nationality.

At the locations of Krizancevo Selo, Safradin and Dubravice, on December 22, 1993, at least 12 captured HVO members who had previously surrendered, as well as two civilians, women of Croatian nationality, were slaughtered.

The suspects are charged with plundering and destroying property.

Bodies of the dead were exchanged 40 days after the crime and signs of abuse and cutting of body parts were observedon the remains of the victims.

Some of the suspects are charged with direct involvement in the crime in the capacity of commanders of the BiH Army units. They have also not taken any steps to prevent crimes and prosecute and punish the perpetrators.

This war crime is one of the greatest sufferings of victims of Croatian nationality in the region ofVitez and the surrounding area during the war in BiH.
