ACCORDING TO THE 2003 AGREEMENT

NATO can react in BiH at any time

Under the 2003 agreement, the EU and NATO can deploy troops to Bosnia and Herzegovina at any time if there is a threat to the country's security.

Such military forces also have the possibility of using military force, especially if they need to defend themselves from attacks, according to United Nations resolutions.

German politician and High Representative Christian Schmidt stressed: "It should be clear that if things get complicated, the European Union, EUFOR and NATO, through the 'Berlin Plus' mechanism, can increase their presence in Bosnia and Herzegovina. I don't see the need for that at the moment but I think we need to be aware of the situation,"Radio Free Europe reported.

Schmidt also added that the Army of RepublikaSrpska will not be formed and that the international community will not allow BiH Presidency member and president of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats MiloradDodik to form an army and endanger the survival of the Armed Forces in BiH.

According to the "Berlin Plus" agreement, the first mission was "Operation EUFOR Concordia" in 2003 in Northern Macedonia, whose goal was to monitor the implementation of the OhridAgreement.

The following year, the EUFOR Althea mission for BiH was formed, and later numerous civilian and military missions around the world.

The "Berlin Plus" agreement is classified, but according to it the member states of the European Union and NATO also have reserve forces for the EUFOR Althea Mission outside Bosnia and Herzegovina, and they are deployed throughout Europe. These forces can be used at any time and deployed at short notice if there is a threat to the safe environment.
