KATNIC ON THE CASE OF TERRORISM

Resignation, if I don’t meet expectations

Chief Special Prosecutor Milivoje Katnic said he would resign if the prosecution did not reach the level expected from him in the case of terrorism. During the Round Table, organized by the CDT, Katnic also announced ammendments to the Law on the SP.

During the conference titled The role of the Special State Prosecutor’s Office in the Fight against Corruption and Organized Crime, organized by the CDT, Katnic said that the results of the SSPO would heva been 30 to 40 percent better if they had better working conditions.

"Our legal system is in line with the best practices of the modern world," Katnic said, adding that everything the Prosecution has been doing was in accordance with law and principles.

"Even if I wanted, I would not be able to abuse the law without being exposed," the Chief Special Prosecutor said, adding that this also applied to the case of attempted terrorism.

"If the prosecution fails to reach legally expected level , I will resign as the chief special prosecutor immediately. In that case, nine persons pleaded guilty and this is a fact, "said Katnic.

Katnic also announced amendments to the Law on the SSP, which have already been submitted to the Ministry of Justice, and the changes have been made due to SSP's over-set competencies.
