TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT

The highway could cost 80 million more than expected

The Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs still cannot tell if the construction costs for the motorway’s priority section Bar- Boljare would increase, but they also do not deny the cost could be 10% higher than expected.

The Ministry informed the newspaper Pobjeda that the contract on projecting and construction of the priority section Smokovac-Uvac-Matesevo includes the possibility of construction costs rise up to 10%.

As the contract specifies that the highway construction will cost the state €809 million, the cost rise may amount to €80.9 million.

“The costs might increase in case there’s a need for some changes, which is nothing unusual when it comes to such a large volume of work.”

The Ministry also underlined that the procedure of defining the unpredictable construction works has been clearly determined through contract clauses.

The main contractor for the priority section of the highway is Chinese company CRBC. In June, Minister of Transport Osman Nurkovic requested from the head of the Chinese company a greater support in the part of the increase in the number of workers and equipment and logistics on the highway. He insisted that the CRBC, as soon as possible, complete the remaining obligations related to the preparation of the project documentation, in order to start talks on resolving these issues.
