Four cases from 1991 and 1992 in pre-trial phase

The Prosecution has four cases relating to the events of 1991 and 1992 at the former Yugoslavia territory that are at the pre-trial phase, Supreme State Prosecutor Ivica Stankovic said, adding that the processing of war crimes had no alternative.

Stankovic and the Chief Prosecutor of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals of the United Nations (UN), Serge Brammertz, signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Podgorica today, which, as announced, will continue and enhance the cooperation of that body with the Montenegrin Prosecutor's Office.

Stankovic said that the judicial confrontation with war crimes and their criminal-law treatment encounter number of specificities that stem from the special features of these crimes.
As he pointed out, punishment for war crimes is an indicator of democratic capacity and the rule of law in all the countries that are facing this problem.
