Montenegro has a growing reputation after joining NATO

The reputation of Montenegro on a global scale is on the rise after accession to NATO alliance and there was a higher inflow of foreign direct investments, as well as higher tourist turnout from NATO member states, the United States Ambassador to Montenegro Judy Rising Reinke announced.

At the meeting with the youth, organized within the project "Let's take a stand for future prospects: the Alliance of Youth and NATO", realized by the Center for Human Rights and Democracy (CEDEM), she said that statistical data indicate that Montenegro achieved numerous benefits after joining the NATO alliance.

"According to the data of the Central Bank of Montenegro, the country already had more than 400 million euros of foreign direct investments from member states of the alliance in 2018, which is 64 percent more than in 2017," Reinke said.

She noted that there was a greater number of visits to Montenegro, as well as number of registered overnight stays of tourists coming from NATO member states. "According to the Monstat, there were 20 percent more recorded overnight stays of tourists from NATO countries in 2018, compared with 2017,‘’ said Ambassador.

It is important that young people, as she said, as future voters and

leaders, educate themselves and form an attitude on key issues.

"The young are the future of Montenegro. That’s why it’s important to hear the facts, perceive all the circumstances, analyze and form their own opinions, because they will shape the state. That's the value of the NATO alliance, because a framework has been created in which young people will be able to learn values of democracy and create their own opinion," Rising Reinke said.

Radmila Perovic, the Head of the Directorate for NATO, European Union, and peace operations, said that two foreign policy objectives were recognized after the restoration of independence of Montenegro - membership in the NATO alliance and membership in the European Union (EU), and that the goal, as she stated, was to adopt the values on which modern Europe, as well as the most developed democracies of the world, rests.

"We sit at the table with the most developed countries of the world and participate in making important decisions on international and global safety. The power of the alliance is a collective awareness of the common interests, and the power of allies is that everyone is able to contribute to it, surpassing its narrow national interests, withholding sovereignty," Perovic said.
