DJUKANOVIĆ SAID

Slowdown of the expansion policy worrying

We in Montenegro firmly believe that the European perspective is the only guarantee that the region of Southeast Europe is truly transformed into a zone of peace, security and development, which is also the fundamental goal of the Cooperation Process. That is why we are concerned about the slowdown and bluring of the enlargement policy, said Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic.

In his speech at the plenary session of the heads of SEECP delegations Djukanovic emphasized how important it is for us to have the EU as a partner that encourages reform processes and gives a clear and unchangeable perspective on how time is precious and how necessary it is to use it responsibly and rationally.

"It is important both because of the Balkans, which has already missed many of its historical opportunities, and because of Europe, which risks losing the present opportunity and confirms and improves its competitiveness and prestige in the current global shift," said the president at the meeting of participating countries of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) in Sarajevo.

He added that there is no more important precondition for the economic and social development of the countries of the Western Balkans from the clear orientation of the Region towards the EU.

"On this occasion too I emphasize two key aspects - comprehensive infrastructural connecting - transport, energy and digital. And education off course. It is difficult to talk about the development, labor mobility and free flow of goods and capital in the physically poorly connected region and in the conditions of the deficit of knowledge," Djukanovic said.
