Support for the departure of our troops to Iraq

The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee unanimously supported today the proposal for decisions to send two members of the Montenegrin Army (VCG) to the NATO Mission in Iraq (NMI).

Defense Minister PredragBoskovic said he expects VCG members to take part in the NATO mission in Iraq in 2020.

He explained that members of the NATO mission in Iraq would be engaged in training Iraqi security forces.

Social Democrat MP Boris Mugosa estimated that taking part in the mission is essential to "the credibility of our country in the international community".

Boskovic invited Committee members to visit the Ministry of Defense. The Chairman of the Committee, BrankoCavor, accepted the invitation and they will decide on date later.

The Defense and Security Council has established a proposal for a decision to deploy VCG members to this mission.  The Parliament should approve the proposal.

Ministry of Defense, as stated, will select the VCT members, as well as duration of rotation - shifts, preparation, training and equipment, practice and coordination of engagement in the NMI mission.
