SEKULIC ABOUT "SMALL SHENGEN"

Montenegro passed the path chosen by three countries

Economy Minister DragicaSekulic said the plan presented inOhrid already exists in Montenegro, and that the country has already passed the path taken by Serbia, Albania and Northern Macedonia.

After meeting in Ohrid, Sekulic said that Montenegro wouldthink carefully about the initiative of the leaders of Northern Macedonia, Serbia and Albania about better connecting the region.

Sekulic told the BBC in Serbian that "our principled position, which we have repeated many times in meetings with leading figures of the European Union and, of course, in meetings with colleagues from the countries of the region, is that we should not accumulate meetings and initiate new initiatives for what has already been agreed and for what the specific countries have undertaken specific commitments to."

Sekulicsaid that details of the initiative were presented to Montenegro at the meeting.

"The difference is in the approach - we do not join but participate in projects of common interest, which involves detailed expertise, consultation with the economy and their associations, and an institutional stance. It is clear that we are far away in European integration and that this is our absolutepriority that will guide us when considering this initiative,"Sekulic noted.

She pointed to the experiencesfrom existing agreements and frameworks.

"There is already a lot of regulation within CEFTA and our view is that first of all, we have to fulfill the obligations that each of us has undertaken, and Montenegro has fulfilled all its obligations. We understand that it is painful, that the liberal economy and opening the borders are incompatible with the so-called protection of our own market and interests, that they are contrary to the barriers that some countries in the region have raised. Therefore, we may need a new initiative to promise again that they will do what we have done a long time ago,"Sekulic said.
