BRAJOVIC

Great expectations of the Montenegrin society from the ombudsman

Montenegrin society has great expectations from the institution of the Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms, and the obligation of the parliament is to help that institution, so that they would be independent and autonomous in their work, said the President of the Assembly, Ivan Brajovic.

Deputy Protectors of Human Rights and Freedoms Nerma Dobardzic and Snezana Armenko took the oath of office before Brajovic today.

Brajovic emphasized the importance of the functioning of the institution of the Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms and said that he believed that deputies, respecting international standards and best practices, would contribute to a greater degree of respect and affirmation of human rights and freedoms through transparent work.

Brajovic emphasized that the parliament is obliged to help the institution of the Ombudsman in order to be independent in their work.

"Our task is to work legally and professionally in the best possible way and thus gain the trust of the citizens," said Brajovic.

He also referred to the recently adopted Law on Life Partnership of Persons of the Same Sex and added that the level of respect for human rights is not ideal in any society.

Brajovic said that the adoption of that law represents a big step forward for the entire Montenegrin society and the quality of human rights.

Deputy Ombudsman Snezana Mijuskovic said that they have great support from the parliament and that without it, regardless of commitment, they cannot accomplish their mission.
