The USA is helping Montenegro in the fight against misinformation

US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and Special Representative of the State Department for the Western Balkans Matthew Palmer said the United States is doing everything it can to help Montenegro fight misinformation.

During talks on the situation in the Western Balkans, organized by Balkan Insider, a Washington-based Internet portal dealing with Balkan issues, Palmer said the United States was helping Montenegro develop capacity to identify misinformation.

The Deputy Assistant Secretary of State pointed out that the assistance has several aspects.

"Part of that support is technical in nature but it is also reflected in developing the ability to monitor the space in which information flows so that misinformation can be identified. We also help develop counter-narratives. From our point of view, or elsewhere in the region - we will draw attention to this and help separate truth from misinformation in order to make it harder for parties to use information to incite distrust," Palmer concluded.
