We must not exhaust our health system

Unfortunately, the Montenegrin health care system has found itself before a serious challenge to fight the coronavirus pandemic in the country, Minister of Health Kenan Hrapovic told Radio Montenegro and said that we must not exhaust it.

Speaking about the possible tightening of preventive measures, Hrapovic said that he, as the Minister of Health, would support all the measures proposed by the health professionals.

Hrapovic pointed out that the data on the number of infected people, which are increasing every day, oblige us to do everything to respect the recommended health measures.

"If the health systems of many developed countries are on their knees due to the pandemic, then we must be aware that we should not exhaust our health system. Due to non-compliance with health measures, we are witnessing that classes in schools must be closed so both children and parents and their teachers have consequences. Hospitality facilities, sports facilities, not to mention further, must be closed, and in that way, those who live from it, suffer great losses. In the end, the whole community feels negative consequences, "Hrapovic said.

The Minister added that we are no longer talking about the technical, technological or spatial capacities of our institutions, the number of respirators, the number of beds in hospitals, the organization of temporary hospitals, but about our health workers who are, as he said, exhausted, tired and among whom there are many infected.

"When they are out of the system, not ventilators nor any other invention will help us, as they cannot work without the medical professionals," said the Minister, emphasizing the expectation that all other institutions and individuals in charge of controlling the implementation of measures will engage all their capacities in controlling the implementation of epidemiological measures, each within its competence.

“The fight against coronavirus depends exclusively on ourselves. If we do not all start to take preventive measures without delay, (wearing masks, keeping distance and hygiene), I am afraid that it will lead us to a situation that I hope none of us would not even want to think of could happen, " Hrapovic said.

Hrapovic considers those who do not respect the measures to be the most responsible for the current situation.

"I remind you that the number of infected citizens is growing every day, and what is especially worrying is that the number of infected health workers is growing every day," he said.
