THE COMMITTEE VOTED
Vuksic's control hearing on March 10
The control hearing of the director of the National Security Agency (ANB)Dejan Vuksic before the Committee for Security and Defense will be held on March 10, it was decided at today's session of that parliamentary body.
The committee supported by a majority of votes the proposal of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) MP Rasko Konjevic, who asked for Vuksic's hearing after the information that part of the documentation in the ANB on illegal wiretapping was destroyed during the previous government's term.
Committee President Milan Knezevic said that he wanted to schedule a session for the control hearings of Vuksic much earlier but that he could not because the opposition boycotted the parliament.
He believes that the sequence of moves of the ANB is disturbed and that is why the Board should react.
"We want to conduct a control hearing and, based on it, determine further directions for parliamentary oversight in this area," Knezevic said.
According to him, the Board is neither the Prosecutor's Office, nor the police, nor the court.
"We are worried that we will end up in a situation where the Board is arbitrating at a time when state bodies are carrying out certain actions," Knezevic said.
Konjevic said that it was important for the Board to receive information and conduct Vuksic’s hearing.
