SNP SUBMITTED

They proposed a procedure for the dismissal of Djukanovic

The Socialist People's Party (SNP) caucus submitted to the Assembly a proposal to initiate a procedure to determine whether the President of Montenegro, Milo Djukanovic, violated the Constitution.

In their explanation the SNP stated that Djukanovic said on August 28 in Cetinje that "it is not wise to insist on the enthronement in that city, but it is wise to move it from Cetinje and do it in one of the many temples in other cities."

"I hope that I will not be in a situation to be in Cetinje on September 5, where the people of Cetinje are and where Montenegro is the majority, where the dignity of the state is being defended," Djukanovic said.

The SNP believes that by doing so, Djukanovic grossly violated Article 14 of the Constitution of Montenegro, which stipulates that religious communities are separated from the state, as well as that they are equal and free in performing religious rites and religious affairs.

"Djukanovic also exceeded the scope of competencies of the President of Montenegro prescribed by Article 95 of the Constitution," the party said. It is estimated that Djukanovic directly interfered in the affairs of a religious community, specifically the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SOC).

"Thus, contrary to the Constitution, he violated the principle of secularity of Montenegro, i.e. the principle of separation of religious communities from the state," the explanation reads.
