Draft law on the origin of property by October 15

The working group for drafting the law on the origin of property is preparing normative solutions with the expert help of international experts from Great Britain, Italy and Slovenia, the Cabinet of the Deputy Prime Minister DritanAbazovic announced.

They add that the Working Group will have a draft of those solutions by October 15, when the text will go to public discussion.

"The law on the origin of property is one of the most important bolts in the fight against organized crime and corruption and its adoption will be a strong impetus in combating criminal groups, revealing public officials who acquired property through corruption, but also one of the most significant steps in overall reforms regarding the rule of law and European integration of Montenegro," it was announced from Abazovic's cabinet.

They add that the Law will be a compilation of regulations from several different state systems, harmonized with European practice and laws applied in EU countries.

"The adoption and implementation of the Law on the Origin of Property will make it clear to citizens that it has broken with previous political practices and started a more effective fight against corruption, which will bring citizens a greater sense of justice and a huge step forward in negotiations with the EU," they state from the Cabinet of the Deputy Prime Minister.

They conclude that the Law on the Origin of Property is one of the systemic laws promised to the citizens in the Agreement that the three leaders of the winning coalition signed in September 2020.
