ABOUT BREXIT

British opposition prepares to clash with prime minister

British opposition parties and rebel members of the ruling party will today oppose Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his insistence that the UK will leave the European Union on 31st November even if there is no agreement, marking a pivotal day in British politics.

Parliament returns today from a summer break, before the suspension of its work, with a key bill on the agenda to prevent a country from leaving the EU without an agreement.

If the bill is passed, the British prime minister's office has announced it will call for early elections.

The proposal, which will be submitted to MPs for a vote, is intended to tie Boris Johnson's hands and order him to seek an extension of the Brexit process until January 31, 2020, according to a BBC journalist.

Brexit without an agreement is considered dangerous because it will breakdecades of free trade in the single market of 500 million people, but Johnson insists that the ability to exit without an agreement must remain on the table as a trump card in EU negotiations.
