A strong earthquake hit Turkey

A strong earthquake with a magnitude of five on the Richter scale hit the southeast of Turkey.

Turkish Administration for Disasters and Emergency Situations AFAD announced that there were no immediate reports of victims or damage from the earthquake that occurred at a depth of 20 kilometers at 8:45n the morning local time, reported AP.

Turkey, which is in the quake zone, has already been hit by two strong earthquakes this year - one that hit the western port city of Izmir last month, killing 117 people, and another in Elazig province, killing 41 people.

At least 17,000 people were killed in a strong earthquake in northwestern Turkey in 1999, the agency stated.
