AFTER A THREE MONTHS BREAK

Netanyahu's trial for corruption continues

The trial for corruption of the former Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu continued today after a three-month break with the cross-examination of the former director of the Valla website Ilan Yeshua.

Netanyahu, now the leader of the opposition, did not come to the Jerusalem District Court for the hearing, because he was allowed not to attend.

Yeshua is the first and main witness in the so-called Case 4000, in which the former prime minister is accused of abusing his position while he was the prime minister and the minister of communications from 2014 to 2017, according to Israeli media.

Netanyahu's lawyers hope that it will be proven that he did not have special treatment in the reports of that newspaper site.

Netanyahu is accused of using his position to illegally contribute to the business interests of Shaul Elovich, the main shareholder in the telecommunications giant Bezek.

In return Elovich was allegedly provided with a voluntary report on Netanyahu and his family on the company's website and allowed associates of the then prime minister and members of his family to use the content of the editorial and the site's policies.

The defense is trying to prove that, contrary to what the main witness claims, the orders came not only from Netanyahu, but also from other politicians, businessmen and companies.

Defense attorneys claimed that they were not given all the recorded conversations with the former director of the website and asked for more time to prepare all the necessary evidence, so the trial was adjourned for three months.
