Babis announced the end of COVID-19, epidemiologists deny

In the campaign before the October parliamentary elections, the Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis announced that the COVID-19 pandemic in the Czech Republic was coming to an end and that the country was returning to normal, which was immediately denied by epidemiologists and the latest statistics.

"COVID-19 is coming to an end, we are returning to normal," Prime Minister Babis wrote on Facebook in his regular Sunday video address "Hi people" and as proof he boasted that he was at a concert where there were as many as 9,000 people in the audience.

Former Minister of Health, now an advisor to Czech President Milos Zeman, epidemiologist Roman Primula warned, however, that a new wave of pandemic was coming, which would be intense at least in Europe, and that the Czech Republic could welcome it with more optimism because of the high percentage of vaccinated and those who had COVID-19infection.

"Because of that, the situation will be better than in a number of Western countries, but I would not say that COVID-19 simply does not exist. It has not disappeared yet," Primula told the Czech tabloid Blesk.
