INVESTIGATION FALLOUT

People's Party slumps in polls after Kurz corruption probe

An investigation against Sebastian Kurz for corruption and bribery has reduced the popularity of the Austrian People's Party (OVP), according to opinion polls. Until recently, the OVP was significantly the strongest political force, and in the current research, it has fallen to the level of the second-placed Social Democratic Party (SPO).

According to research by the Institute for Democracy and Data Analysis, OVP and SPO are, after many years, equalized again.

At this moment, the OVP would get 25 percent of the votes, as much as the SPO would win, reports Tanjug.

In the 2019 elections, the OVP won more than 30 percent of the vote, while the SPO was just over 20 percent.

In second place is the Freedom Party of Austria (FPO), which could win 18 percent of the vote, two to three more than before.

The fourth force is the NEOS, which could win 11 percent of the vote, five percent more than in the last election.
