VUKADINOVIC

Census should not be an extended election process

The current Minister for Human and Minority Rights, Mehmed Zenka, assessed that the CDT's initiative not to collect data on national and religious affiliation and language during the census was unjustified and that questions about religion, nation, and language should have remained on the census list. Analyst Srdjan Vukadinovic says that the proposal will be supported by more than 41 deputies in the Assembly. He also notes that census should not be extended election process, with, as he stated, inflammatory rhetoric and campaign.

The initiative of the CDT to exclude questions about the nation, religion and language from the upcoming census is not acceptable to Prime Minister-designate Zdravko Krivokapic, it was announced from his expert team.

"The census is not an existential problem, nor an electoral rematch, but a relatively simple statistical procedure, which must never be manipulated for political purposes again," Krivokapic’s expert team said.

The message from Democratic Montenegro is that they stand for absolute freedom of choice and the issue of the census will inevitably be the subject of harmonization by the future government.
